Panel featuring David Farr, who also serves as NAM chairman, to be livestreamed from Houston
ST. LOUIS (March 8, 2017) – Fresh from a White House meeting with President Donald Trump, Emerson’s CEO today takes a leadership role in the globalization dialogue in front of more than 3,000 delegates on the world’s biggest energy stage at CERAWeek 2017 by IHS Markit.
Bringing a distinct perspective, David Farr, Emerson’s chairman and chief executive officer, was recently named chairman of the National Association of Manufacturers, the largest manufacturing association in the United States. Farr recently helped kick off a “State of Manufacturing Tour,” touting the continued strength and evolving focus of manufacturing in the oil/gas industry and beyond.
“Manufacturing plays a vital role in the globalization story,” Farr said. “We can be strong and grow in the United States and also operate on the global stage. There are very clear, long-term career opportunities in modern manufacturing. We want to show how technology is preserving manufacturing jobs into the future—and the significance of educating and training our workforce to fill the industry jobs of tomorrow.”
At CERAWeek in Houston, Farr will join conference Chairman Daniel Yergin for “What Ever Happened to Globalization?”—a panel discussion that will be streamed live at live.ceraweek.com. The panel, which takes place at 10 a.m. CT on March 8, will focus on benefits, challenges and strategies needed to navigate the current landscape.
“With evolving trade and regulation policies and the shifting energy outlook, the conversation about globalization is getting louder—but these are not new considerations for multinational companies,” Farr said. “Over the past two decades, Emerson has employed a regional approach to ensure that products sold in a country were also manufactured in that country. We’re proud to say that over 80 percent of products we sell in the United States were manufactured in the United States – and this is a strategy we mirror across the globe. We’ve considered this a crucial element of being a successful multinational company with deep U.S. roots.”
CERAWeek will feature a strong Emerson presence, including Farr’s panel; insight from Emerson President Ed Monser during a “Gas and its Markets” session; Emerson Automation Solutions Executive President Mike Train on a panel about “Service Company Strategies: Positioning for the Future”; and a focused discussion of “Technology Innovation in Energy Sector: Evolution or Revolution?” with Peter Zornio, chief strategic officer of Emerson Automation Solutions.
