Machinery Protection Systems
When you require protection on critical assets, API-compliant systems allow you to operate safely and with confidence.
Safety regulations and insurance requirements can dictate the need for a shutdown system on your expensive and critical production assets. But protection can be more than a necessary expense – the right system can be a path to integrating predictive intelligence to avoid false or missed trips and determing when a critical asset can continue running safely. Emerson systems are also compliant to a variety of API standards and SIL environments, meeting strict safety and insurance requirements.
Protection-Plus-Prediction
The AMS 6500 ATG protection system is a modern protection-plus-prediction system designed to easily replace obsolete protection systems, allowing users to cost-effectively initiate online prediction monitoring of critical rotating machinery assets like steam turbine generators, gas turbines, boiler feed pumps, offshore compressors, pipeline turbo compressors, chemical industry compressors, turbo exhausters, blowers, boosters and more.
Balance-of-Plant Prediction
For some rotating assets and the processes associated with them, periodic route-based data collection is insufficient to indicate asset health. Online condition monitoring provides the frequency and types of data necessary to stay on top of developing issues during normal operations and to respond quickly to sudden changes during transient conditions. Emerson’s AMS 6500 Machinery Health Monitor is a versatile, scalable system that can be deployed in a variety of configurations to deliver online condition monitoring exactly as needed for the application.
Digital Overspeed Protection
Overspeed conditions on critical rotating equipment can be damaging to your assets and the plant personnel in the area. In addition, damaged equipment is expensive and time-consuming to repair or replace. During transient and normal operation, the AMS 6300 SIS guards against overspeed conditions caused by sudden load loss and unexpected changes. In addition, the same sensors will verify the rotational direction of your rotating equipment to ensure your assets are functioning correctly.
Machinery Health Sensors
With Emerson´s AMS EZ 1000 eddy current sensor and converter you always have the part you need when you need it. With one converter that is compatible with a range of sensors and cables, you’ll be able to mix-and-match your spares to your application while reducing your converter inventory. And with an easy-to-use procedure for field calibrations, you’ll be back to work sooner. The AMS EZ 1000 makes changing out sensors following a shutdown or replacing sensors during turnarounds/maintenance quick and painless.
By the Numbers
Plants looking for the advantages of a modern protection system are turning to Emerson’s AMS 6500 ATG system – an API 670-compliant protection system with embedded prediction technology.
Emerson systems have amassed more than 3 billion hours protecting critical assets like steam turbine generators, gas turbines, boiler feed pumps, and many others.
Spanning the last five decades, Emerson has designed and delivered protection and prediction technologies to the world’s leading manufacturing customers.
Emerson has modernized more than 1,000 obsolete or outdated protection systems around the world.
More than critical 5,000 turbomachines – and more each week – are protected by an AMS system across numerous industries.
AMS 6500 ATG | Protection System Modernization
API 670 peace of mind with ultramodern, proven technology.
While hard to believe, many of the world’s leading manufacturers have plants today using 30+ year-old-protection systems for critical production assets like compressors, turbines, generators, and many others. Additionally, widely adopted legacy vendors have left many long-time customers and end users to absorb the blows associated with long lead times, unavailable spare parts, supply chain challenges or poor support.
Plants looking to implement modern protection technology are turning to the AMS 6500 ATG system – field-proven protection system with embedded prediction tools. Now operators can identify developing faults and analyze conditions during transient stages – the startup and shutdown of turbo machinery – when equipment is most likely to fail.
The AMS 6500 ATG is API 670 compliant and meets various safety certifications required for use in hazardous environments: CSA Class1 Div2, IECex Zone 2, ATEX, and DNV GL certifications.
Know the health of the asset using the powerful prediction capabilities included in all of Emerson’s vibration analysis solutions, including PeakVue technology for the earliest indication of bearing failure.
Easily connect to existing DCS/PLC, Historian, or MHI systems via OPC UA and Modbus TCP and RTU. Information is accessible via the Machine Studio software, or the AMS ATG View mobile app (both are included as part of the system).
Machine Studio saves time with easy, flexible configuration using an intuitive graphical user interface and savable templates. Reporting capabilities such as system configuration and change management provide additional savings by automating the documentation process.
Stay flexible and lower total cost of ownership with universal monitor and process cards featuring user-configurable inputs. Adaptable cards allow for I/O changes in the field, fewer spare cards to accommodate a wide range of measurement types, and cards designed to work with existing sensors.
Although no additional software is required when using AMS 6500 ATG, users can move beyond simple fault recognition and take analysis a step further by pairing with AMS Machine Works as a complimentary solution.
