Hydrogen flow measurement has many challenges to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of use while maintaining cost effectiveness. Traditional technologies such as differential pressure, vortex, or thermal mass experience make measuring hydrogen flow challenging because of its low molecular weight and operating density. The advantage of using a flow meter for hydrogen instrumentation is direct mass measurement with no moving parts, high accuracy over a wide range of operating conditions, and a fully welded design to meet hydrogen safety needs. Micro Motion Coriolis flow meters have exceled in hydrogen flow measurement due to their sensitivity to flow and ability to measure accurately without being affected by flow induced noise. Many applications will use a hydrogen gas flow meter, often used in tandem with other technologies such as a hydrogen purity analyzer for hydrogen quality and hydrogen gas detector for safety in blending applications.
