Lithium Carbonate process starts at brine wells with a very low lithium concentration, then by successive concentration in ponds and purification steps, it reaches commercial grade of battery grade Lithium Carbonate. One critical step in this process involves a chemical reaction with Sodium Carbonate to precipitate Lithium Carbonate. Sodium Carbonate is a very expensive additive which is often added in excess to the process to ensure maximum Lithium extraction. Controlling Sodium Carbonate concentration is then key to ensure maximum lithium extraction at the lowest cost.
The Micro Motion Fork Density Meter provides real-time, online Sodium Carbonate density and temperature measurement, which are paramount in setting a concentration control. Without these measurements, companies must rely on manual density sampling only, which does not guarantee an optimum concentration control, leading to excess reactive use.
