Congratulations to the Winners of Emerson Canada’s 2022 Virtual STEM Competition!

In the summer of 2022, Emerson Canada held its fourth annual We Love STEM event, designed to teach and inspire youth in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). In this year’s virtual competition, participants were challenged to solve life’s biggest challenges by using STEM principles to build a better home, body, or mind. Whether it’s reducing energy consumption around the house, or inventing technologies to promote healthy eating and better sleep, this year’s participants really let their creativity shine!

Throughout the summer, applicants had the opportunity to participate in several Speaker Series sessions with past winners of the STEM competition who offered their tips and advice to current participants. The Speaker Series Sessions also provided the opportunity to meet athletes Steve Mesler, Mark Messer, Remmelt Eldering, Graeme Fish and Brooklyn McDougall, who taught kids about the science behind sports. All applicants also received a Welcome Kit full of at home experiments and activities to foster curiosity and learning in STEM.

During the competition, participants were supported by 20+ mentors from universities and colleges across the country. The mentors helped students think critically to develop their ideas and presentations. A panel of judges from across Emerson and its Impact Partners came together to review all the submissions, and the top 10 finalists were selected to present their projects in a final round via live video.

The final round of judges included Derek Armstrong of Prairies Can EDC; Lisa Doig of APEGA; Kevin Krausert of Avatar Innovations; Tonja Leach of Quest Canada; and Barry Blight of Spartan Controls.

The annual STEM Competition supports Emersons’ We Love STEM campaign; an initiative launched which aims to empower the next generation of engineers. This year’s competition was made possible by Emerson Impact Partners Spartan Controls, Lakeside, and Laurentide.
