Salt is a key raw material used in polymer production. It is mixed with water, and via electrolysis the chloride atom is separated and used in the production of the vinyl chloride monomer. The salt can be stored in silos or large piles. It can be very abrasive and corrosive. As a key component, an adequate supply must be available at all times. If stored in large piles, it can be difficult to know the inventory, making a robust level measurement necessary.
