During the desalination of seawater process, treated seawater is heated in an evaporator with its resulting vapor collected and recondensed in the condenser. The condenser product is fresh water, while the evaporator product is removed as brine. Scaling can occur in the evaporator if the calcium sulfate concentration gets too high. Conductivity is measured in the evaporator to control scaling by triggering the removal of the heavy brine. The Rosemount™ 228 Toroidal Conductivity Sensor is a great solution for this application as it provides accurate measurements even when coated.
