The use of LNG in the marine industry has been around for quite a few years and is known to be a popular and cleaner alternative to traditional marine fuel. However, it is quite complex to find a solution that suits the specific tank requirements on various LNG fuel tanks. One of the challenges in using LNG as fuel is storage. Type C tanks, which are designed to withstand cryogenic temperatures, are often considered a feasible option for LNG storage on marine vessels. Type C tanks, commonly 300-1000 m³, -162°C, below 10 bar, and less than 20 m in height are feasible to be used for LNG. Radar technology is ideal for this application since it has a vertical cold box with process connections on top of the tank. Solutions used for this application must be IGF code compliant and approved by marine class societies.
Gain vital operating information from your Rosemount CMS Tank Radar Gauges. The Rosemount Supply and Communications Unit (SCU) acts as a connection hub that collects and stores data from gauges and sensors, and serves clients with requested data. The unit is self-contained with provisions for intrinsically safe connection to external units. The unit stores configuration data of connected devices. Up to 68 tank channels can be connected.
Operational continuity is key for your ship’s long-term success. With Aperio Software you get a single point overview of your ship’s systems, which improves your ability to plan, control, monitor and react to alarms. It’s designed to manage a variety of stand-alone systems for tank monitoring, valve and pump control fuel management and alarm acquisition. The Aperio is highly scalable and flexible with customizing capabilities for most any combination of tasks, for most any size of vessel.
