Coker Fired Heaters are required to be tied to a SIF (Safety Instrumented Function) to ensure the heater is shut off if there is a low flow indicator. A common false positive in this application occurs when there is build-up and plugging in the impulse lines. This would cause the flow indication to falsely indication a low or no flow condition, shutting down the heater. The Rosemount 9195 Wedge Flow Meter offers a fully assembled design for accurate measurement of fluids that wear or plug other meter designs. The wedge shaped element provides abrasion resistance due to the lack of a critically sharp edge. Highly viscous fluids can also be measured accurately due to the linear response of the meter even at low Reynold’s Number.
