Solutions to address customer challenges with marine level measurement

The use of methanol in the marine industry has been picking up in the last few years, and many companies are investing in methanol-propelled ships. When methanol is used as fuel, it needs to comply with the IGF code, IMO – MSC.1/Circ. 1621 Interim Guidelines for the safety of ships using methyl/ethyl alcohol as fuel and rules and regulations for the classification of ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels.

Radar-based solutions are the ideal technology. It is reliable and commonly used for large marine fuel tanks. Another strength is that only one level device is needed since the electronics can be replaced without compromising the tank integrity. In comparison, technologies that require tank entry in case of malfunction need more devices. Smaller methanol tanks require at least one continuous level measurement device and a high-high level alarm device.
