Two phase separators are used to separate hydrocarbon fluids into two components: oil and water. The separation process requires accurate and reliable measurement in order to prevent carryover and carryunder, which in turn effects the process efficiency. Using measurement equipment can also help to identify when high levels of sediment collect in the base of the vessel to avoid blocked inlets from solid media being drawn down lines and into pumps. This can be accomplished by installing the Rosemount 5300 Guided Wave Radar with a single lead probe either directly mounted or in a chamber, paired with a Rosemount 2140 Level Detector for point level measurement and monitoring any presence of sand and/or sludge at the bottom of the vessel.
