Electrical conductivity is the most cost-effective technique for measuring oleum and sulfuric acid purity, which are critical parameters used to control process conditions and safeguard the process equipment in sulfuric acid manufacturing. The purity of the oleum is controlled by measuring its acid concentration with a conductivity sensor and adjusting the oleum tower recycle ratio. Similarly, the purity of the sulfuric acid is controlled by measuring its acid concentration with a conductivity sensor and adjusting the sulfuric acid tower recycle ratio. Traditional contacting conductivity sensors are a poor choice for this application because their metal electrodes are corroded by the sulfuric acid. Instead, an ideal choice for most sulfuric acid manufacturing applications is the Rosemount™ 228 Toroidal Conductivity Sensor as this sensor has no metal wetted parts and is available in a chemically resistant Tefzel™ body that is designed to withstand the corrosive sulfuric acid.
The Rosemount 1058 Dual Channel Transmitter provides confident liquid analysis measurement in a wide range of industrial, municipal and commercial applications. It is a 4-wire powered device that provides multi-parameter liquid analysis for digital and analog sensors, including inputs from pH/ORP sensors, ISE, flow, current, conductivity sensors (contacting and toroidal), turbidity sensors and amperometric sensors (dissolved oxygen, chlorine and ozone).
The Rosemount 5081 Explosion-Proof Transmitter is a single channel loop powered device that can accept input from a variety of liquid analysis sensors including: pH/ORP sensors, conductivity sensors (contacting and toroidal) and amperometric sensors (dissolved oxygen, chlorine and ozone). The transmitter features a rugged, weatherproof, corrosion-resistant enclosure to withstand harsh environments.
