Emerson Opens Measurement Technology Center in Beijing

Emerson makes USD 28 million investment to expand manufacturing capabilities and help industrial customers achieve the benefits of digital transformation of their operations in China

BEIJING (November 14, 2017) — Emerson (NYSE: EMR), the global technology and engineering company, today officially opened a new Measurement Technology Center in Beijing to serve its Emerson Automation Solutions business in China and across Asia.  The new facility, representing an investment of nearly USD 28 million, includes the company’s first China Solutions Center for customers and a newly built and expanded manufacturing plant to meet domestic and Asia-Pacific market demand.

Emerson’s new Measurement Technology Center in Beijing delivers accurate measurement technologies for process clarity and real-time insight to run plants at peak potential. The Center also helps industrial customers adopt Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that can transform their businesses in today’s digital economy.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, David Farr, chairman and chief executive officer of Emerson, said “Emerson has been investing in China since the 1970s and we are proud of how our employees in China have contributed to the country’s economic development.  With this new Measurement Technology Center, Emerson will be able to engage in even closer collaboration with our customers in China in helping the industry adopt digital transformation technologies.”

Emerson’s new manufacturing plant, which is located in the Daxing district of Beijing, produces Rosemount™ pressure, temperature transmitter, radar level, and differential pressure flow products that serve as the foundation of the Plantweb digital ecosystem, the company’s Industrial IoT platform. This is the company’s largest manufacturing location outside of the United States to produce core components of these measurement instruments and to supply the Asian market. 

The new manufacturing facility implements various best practices in intelligent manufacturing, including the use of robotics and communications networking of key stages to provide a steady stream of data to monitor product quality and productivity. The plant’s stringent quality control system including an engineering and design lab and a quality lab to ensure Emerson delivers high-quality products that meet each customer’s requirements.  The plant is also equipped with 3-D printing technology that will be used in creating prototypes for testing as part of product development initiatives. 

The facility also features the company’s first industrial-focused Solutions Center in China, providing customers with hands-on exposure to the capabilities of Plantweb™ digital ecosystem.  Built on the foundation of the company’s best-in-class process control and safety systems, Emerson’s Plantweb digital ecosystem expands on existing automation infrastructure to make the benefits of  Industrial IoT scalable and achievable, with a broad portfolio of Pervasive Sensing technologies, an extensive suite of analytical software tools, secure and robust data infrastructure devices, and expert services. In the Solutions Center, customers can explore new ways to manage remote operations and collaborate with experts anywhere in the world.
