pH Measurement in Continuous Neutralization of Industrial Wastewater

pH Sensor Resists Coating for Accurate pH Measurement

To manage industrial waste streams that eventually enter lakes, oceans and municipal sewer systems, environmental authorities require pH neutralization. Direct discharge without pH neutralization is harmful to the environment and causes corrosion of piping systems. Continuous neutralization of acidic or alkaline industrial waste streams is employed when there's a high volume of waste with short residence times. In continuous neutralization, the industrial waste stream enters a stirred tank reactor, and acid or base is constantly added to the tank to maintain a target pH level. Treated waste then exits the reactor. Because industrial waste streams contain undissolved materials that can coat the pH glass and reference junction, a pH sensor that resists coating is ideal for installation in the stirred tank reactor. The Rosemount™ 396P pH/ORP Sensor features a large-area reference junction design as well as a shrouded tip that resists coating.
