Frequently Asked Questions

AMS historically stood for Asset Management Solutions. Today, Emerson uses AMS (no acronym) primarily as the established brand name for its reliability, asset management, and workflow orchestration portfolio.

The modern AMS portfolio reflects decades of innovation and expertise, bringing together technologies and capabilities from across Emerson's reliability heritage. This includes the machinery health and vibration analysis solutions pioneered by CSI (Computational Systems, Inc.), an industry leader in predictive maintenance and condition monitoring that became part of Emerson, as well as Emerson's field device management, instrumentation, valve management software, and handheld diagnostic solutions with roots in the Fisher-Rosemount and Plantweb technology portfolios.

Over time, these technologies evolved into a unified, class-leading portfolio under the AMS brand, giving organizations a more connected approach to asset health, reliability, diagnostics, and performance optimization. Today, AMS solutions help the world’s leading companies monitor, manage, and maintain critical assets across the entire plant lifecycle, enabling improved reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.

Machinery health management is the process of monitoring equipment condition to identify developing issues before they lead to failures. It combines patented technologies, vibration analysis, condition monitoring, protection systems, AI, and analytics to improve reliability or rotating equipment and production assets or systems.

Field device management software and handheld field communicators help teams configure, calibrate, diagnose, document, and maintain intelligent field instruments, control valves and other IIoT from a centralized platform.

Condition monitoring continuously tracks equipment health using data such as vibration, temperature, and pressure. Predictive maintenance uses that data and analytics to forecast failures and recommend maintenance actions before problems occur.

Vibration analysis evaluates machine vibration patterns to identify potential issues such as bearing damage, imbalance, misalignment, looseness, gear defects, and cavitation.

PeakVue technology is Emerson's patented vibration analysis technology designed to detect early-stage bearing and mechanical faults that may not be visible through conventional vibration methods.
